- The following 12 keys present a brief introduction to
- the Lessons covered in the WordPerfect Manual 101.

- √√√ One custom used in this Book/Disk is to identify keys
- on the keyboard by enclosing them in these brackets < >.
- (The less than < and greater than > character signs)
- When reference is made to the F1 key, it will appear
- like this: <F1>.
- When reference is made to the Shift F1 key, it will
- appear like this: <Shift+F1>.

- √√√ HOW TO CREATE A COMMAND THAT USES TWO DIFFERENT KEYS.
- First, press and hold down the <Shift> key, then press
- the <F1> key. Release both keys.

- √√√ THE <HOME + HOME + Up ARROW> COMMAND
- This command returns your cursor to the first line
- and first column of your document. You can be at any page
- of a document, even at page 25, your cursor will return to
- line 1, position 1 or 10. Position varies how you set the
- distance from the left column.

- √√√ HOW TO USE THE <HOME + HOME + UP ARROW> COMMAND
- Press <Home> key and release. Press <Home> again and release.
- Now press <Up Arrow> and release. Cursor will move to
- line 1, and column 1. Look at the Status Line at the bottom
- right of your document screen to verify.

- √√√ TO BEGIN
- Rather than type a sample letter at this time, we are
- going to use a file on this disk named DAVID.
- We'll use David as a sample letter with some of the
- WordPerfect commands.

- √√√ ACCESS YOUR WORDPERFECT PROGRAM
- You are now ready to load the WordPerfect program.
- When you load Wordperfect into the computer:
- ▀ The WordPerfect screen appears as a blank screen.
- ▀ A blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner
- of the screen.
- ▀ A Status Line appears at the bottom right of the screen.

- √√√ HOW TO USE THE DISK IN THE A DRIVE
- ▀ Insert your disk into the A drive.
- ▀ Press the <F5> key. (Bottom right of screen says
- use = to change to a new directory,

- ▀ Press key with the = sign.
- ▀ The bottom left of screen asks for the new directory.
- ▀ Type A with a colon, like this:

- A: and press Enter key TWICE

- The top of the screen shows that we are now in the

- "Directory A:\*.*

- Key #1.. HOW TO RETRIEVE DAVID
- ▀ Move cursor down to highlight the file
- DAVID.
- ▀ Press number 1 key to Retrieve DAVID file.
- ▀ Press <Home + Home + Up Arrow > to bring cursor
- to top of window (Line 1 Pos 1).
- The cursor should be under the M in May.

- Key #2.. TO LOWER A DOCUMENT
- ▀ Press Enter key three times to lower
- document three lines.
- ▀ Press <Home + Home + Up Arrow > keys, to move cursor
- back to Home position. Status Line at
- bottom right reads 1 Line 1 Pos1.

- Key #3.. TO RAISE A DOCUMENT
- ▀ To raise document to Line 1 Pos 1
- press DEL key three times.

- ▀ To raise a document one line place cursor in
- an empty line above document. Then press DEL key.
- ▀ To lower any line place cursor under first
- letter of that line, then press Enter key.

- Key #4.. TO GO TO BEGINNING OF A DOCUMENT
- ▀ Press <Home + Home + Up Arrow >.

- TO GO TO END OF A DOCUMENT
- ▀ Press <Home + Home + Down Arrow >.
-
- Key #5.. TO VIEW A DOCUMENT
- ▀ To view a document
- ▀ Press <Shift+F7> then 6.
- ▀ Press <F7> to return to document.

- Key #6.. SPELL CHECK A DOCUMENT
- ▀ Press <Home + Home + Up Arrow > to go
- to Line 1 Pos 1.
- ▀ Press <Ctrl+F2>, then 3 for document.
- ▀ First word Howard appears in
- Reverse video. Since Howard is a
- Proper name it is not in the WP vocabulary.
- ▀ Press 1 to skip to next word.

- ▀ Spell Check stops at Execitive. Since this
- spelling is incorrect, Spell Check supplies a
- correct spelling. Press A to add correct
- spelling.
- ▀ Continue until checking is completed.
- Press any key to return to document
- ▀ Press <Page Up> to return to Line 1 Pos 1.

- Key #7. CENTERING TEXT
- ▀ Place cursor under first letter of May (M)
- ▀ Press <Shift+F6> to center first line.
- ▀ Next line, place cursor under 1.
- Press <Shift+F6> to center second line.
- ▀ Next line, place cursor under P.

- ▀ Press <Shift+F6> to center third line.
- ▀ All three lines are centered. To check this you
- will use View document command <Shift+F7> then 6.

- How To View Document Change
- ▀ Press <Shift+F7>, then 6.
- ▀ Press <F7> to return to document.

- Key #8.. BLOCKING.... FOR MOVING SENTENCES
- ▀ Place cursor under M of May.
- ▀ Press <Alt+F4>, the Blocking command.
- ▀ Use <Down Arrow > to highlight the 3 lines.
- ▀ Press <Ctrl+F4>, then 1 + 1 . (Move command).
- ▀ Move cursor to location you want to move
- the sentence.
- ▀ Press Enter key to make transfer.

- BLOCKING A PARAGRAPH TO BE MOVED
- ▀ Using <Down Arrow > and <Left Arrow > place cursor
- under the T of Thanks (paragraph 4).
- ▀ Press <Alt+F4>.
- ▀ Press Down Arrow > to highlight the whole
- paragraph (5 lines).
- ▀ Press <Ctrl+F4>, the 1 + 1 (Move command).
- ▀ Move cursor to location you want to move
- the paragraph.
- ▀ Press Enter key to make transfer.

- ▀ Place cursor again under the T of Thanks.
- ▀ Turn on Block command <Alt-F4>.
- ▀ Use <Down Arrow > and highlight the five lines.

- Key #9.. ADDING ATTRIBUTES (LETTER SIZES AND STYLE)
- ▀ Press <Ctrl+F8>.
- ▀ Select 2 (appearance).
- ▀ Select 4 (Italics).
- ▀ Paragraph color changes to red.

- ▀ Move cursor under O of OUR RESEARCH.
- ▀ Press <Alt+F4> key (Block on)
- ▀ Use <Down Arrow > to highlight the 4 lines

- ▀ Press <Ctrl+F8>.
- ▀ Select 1 ( for size).
- ▀ Select 5 (for large size letters).
- You can view document to see sizes.
- <Shift+F7>, the 6.
- Then <F7> to return to document).

- Key #10. PRINTING THE DOCUMENT
- ▀ Press <Shift+F7>, then 1 (Full document).

- √√√ PRINTING GRAPHICS (PICTURES)
- ▀ Make a clean by Pressing <F7>, then N + N.
- ▀ Press <Home + Home + Up Arrow > key.
- This moves cursor to top left corner of screen.

- ▀ Press <Alt+F9> (Graphics key).
- ▀ Select 1 (Figure).
- ▀ Select 1 (Create).
- ▀ Select 1 (Filename).
- ▀ Type Clock.WPG <Press Enter key>.

- ▀ If the Clock.WPG is not found, use any graphic
- file that as .WPG extension.
- ▀ The graphic is selected when it appears at the
- right on line 1.
- ▀ Press <F7>, then press Enter key.

- ▀ You are back to document screen.

- √√√ TO SEE WHAT THE GRAPHIC DOCUMENT LOOKS LIKE
- ▀ Press <Shift+F7>, then 6.

- You get a preview of the document with the clock.
- ▀ Press <F7> to return to document.

- If you wish to print the GRAPHIC document:
- ▀ Press <Shift+F7>, then 1.
- for a printed copy of document.

- Key #11.. SETTING MARGINS <Shift+F8>
- ▀ To set Left and Right margins:
- ▀ Press <Shift+F8>.
- ▀ Press 1 for line.
- ▀ Press 7 for Margin.

- ▀ Set both left and right margins for
- 10 (spaces).

- ▀ Press Enter key.
- ▀ Press 8 to set Tabs.
- ▀ Set Tabs at 5 (for 5 spaces).
- ▀ Press <Enter> twice to return to document.

- Key #12.. SORTING NAMES (Sorting Key <Ctrl+F9>
- ▀ To Sort:
- ▀ Have list of names to be sorted on screen.
- ▀ Press <Ctrl+F9>.
- ▀ Press 2 (for sort).

- ▀ For "Input to screen" <Press Enter key>.
- ▀ For "Output to screen" <Press Enter key>.
- ▀ Push 6 for Order.
- ▀ Push 1 for ascending.
- ▀ Push 1 for Perform Action.

- Names are sorted from A to Z.
